Hello, my name is Diane. I imagine that you are mainly interested in my editing skills and rates. First, though, I'd like to share a few things about myself, because I believe that a good writer/editor relationship is important to the editing process. Hopefully this information will help you decide if we have the potential to work well together. Three things: I am an optimist, I love books and learning, and I love animals and nature. In my free time, I read continuously, volunteer at the Kansas City Zoo, hike, garden, bird watch, and help run Mind Like Water. I share my world with a wonderful husband, a Great Pyrenees, and a white mouse rescued from our garden.

There are "big picture" people, and then there is me. I'm the one immersed in the details. This is undoubtedly a consequence of my scientific and legal background. I have a Master's degree in Zoology, which involved data gathering and analysis of many aspects of a particular seabird's reproductive behavior. Details. I also have a law degree, and have spent the past eight years working as a regulatory compliance specialist in the environmental consulting industry. Air regulations, hazardous waste regulations, etc. Now we're really talking details. I have written and edited many technical documents, which depend upon clarity, conciseness, organization and accuracy. The point of all this is that when I edit, I am completely focused on the details - the words, sentence structure, and formatting, as well as on overall readability. I believe that produces a well-edited document. In case you are concerned that all of this technical experience is not suited to your fiction piece, rest assured that between my college degree in English and a lifetime of reading primarily literature, my ear is well attuned to fiction.

Three years ago, I accepted an offer to become a partner of Mind Like Water. As Content Manager, my responsibilities include editing e-books, e-newsletters, and web sites. The opportunity to edit electronic content has been exciting for me.
